My machine
My machine is a DermaLase IPL, from NuBody Equipment. It's an intense pulsed light system, not a laser. It holds Health Canada medical device licence No. 85911 (Class III), listed as “IPL - Skin Therapy System”. You can look the licence up yourself on Health Canada's website.
What the manufacturer says
This is NuBody Equipment's own description of what the DermaLase IPL can be used for, quoted from its product page. The words are the manufacturer's, not mine.
- Skin treatments. NuBody says the DermaLase IPL's filters give it “the versatility to perform a wide variety of treatments including” age spots, “Collagen Remodelling”, fine lines, dull skin, pigmentation, freckles and broken capillaries, among others.

On skin tone: Health Canada's guideline on light-based hair removal says naturally dark or tanned skin is harder to treat, and I apply the same caution here. Tell me your skin tone and about any recent tan before you book, and I'll tell you honestly whether it's the right fit.

You'll fill out a medical history and a consent form before your first session. I keep both with your booking in Fresha.
Tell me about a recent tan or self-tanner, any medications you take, and any tattoos or moles in the area.

IPL photofacial FAQ
What's the difference between a photofacial and skin rejuvenation?
They use the same machine and cost the same by area. Which one fits depends on your skin and what you'd like to work on, so call me before you book and we'll go through it. The manufacturer's own list of what the machine can be used for is under “My machine” on this page.
What's in the Glow Facial package?
IPL skin rejuvenation with a facial around it: cleanse, skin prep, the IPL treatment, a soothing and cooling treatment, a hydrating mask, finishing skincare, SPF and aftercare.
Is this a laser treatment?
No. My machine is an IPL, which is intense pulsed light. It's a DermaLase IPL and it holds Health Canada medical device licence No. 85911. More on that on my IPL page.
Will it suit my skin tone?
Light treatments target pigment, so your skin tone and any recent tan matter. Tell me about both before you book and I'll tell you honestly whether it's the right fit.
How many sessions will I need?
That depends on your skin and what you'd like to work on. We'll talk it through before your first session.
